    New Fan

    Hi,

a support post more than anything,

Just discovered Mark's solo work and very pleased I have. Just getting into Shagri-La and Crimson, will listen to the others later - loving every song, beautiful and interesting. I have been searching Napster for an artist who is making music that suits my now educated ear and I thankfully have found him.

Thanks to Mark and I hope much more is to come, your music sits very well with me - a 42 year old who has listened to and enjoys all music, but yours is a joy to listen to.

    Neil

    Hi Neil,

Shagri-la....is that listening to Mark Knopfler while lying on a shag rug? ha ha, Dreaming that you are in paradise?

Welcome! I think you'll like Sailing to Philadelphia as well..
"The birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the telegraph road"

"My darling boy, all of my sunshine and all of my joy"

Welcome to the neighborhood!  Be sure to explore the Notting Hillbillies.  Great tunes there too.

    @jennja

     :) Damn typo's!

Will be checking out all Mark's work for sure, really loving his music. My kids, 8 and 10, both ask for 'Boom, Like That' every time we go in the car. I may have to fight for the CD's :)

I really like the way Mark rewards those who listen more than once and in particular how on some records an ordinary song turns into something beautiful almost from nowhere.

     I'm sold.

    Re: New Fan

    btw,

I was never a big Dire Straits fan, although Brothers in Arms and Telegraph Road are amongst my favorite songs ever. I always felt Dire Straits never new exactly what they wanted to be musically - I realise their success contradicts that statement, but Mark's solo work is clearly from a man doing what he wants and it shows.
